This week's PoW focuses on the details of a problem. It is an assortment of several "trick questions" that make a reader really consider what the wording and situation is. Many are often "tricked" the first time they attempt them, but soon learn their lesson. Good luck!!

Hello again everyone! This weeks's PoW is a neat problem involving bridges and islands. You must find a way to connect all the islands together, but must use the specified number of bridges for each island. The bridges will never cross or go diagonally. They also never go through islands and there is never more than 1 bridge between two islands. Give it a try!
It's that time already! This week will be our first hand-in week of the semester. The outline is posted on this page so it can be downloaded. Remember the mark is broken down into 3 categories: Timely Work, Clear Problem Solving, and Reflection and Connection Questions. A basic guide to how these 3 categories are marked is included on the back of the hand-in outline.
This week's PoW is an interesting number challenge. You have the numbers 1 through 19 arranged in a hexagonal shape. The goal is to rearrange the numbers so each row of the hexagon has a sum of 38. Each number can only be used once. Trust me, it is doable! Good luck!
Sorry that this one is late coming! This week's PoW is a classic problem with a farming twist to it where three items need to be transported and the risk is if certain combinations are left alone, something will be eaten. Good luck!
Well ladies and gents, it is time for a new semester so that means it is time for more Problems of the Week! Our first one of the semester returns to the matchstick problems we've dealt with before. This particular one has a starting shape made of squares with 5 challenges to try and produce. Good luck!!
This week will be our final week of PoW work this semester. I will be giving you your final PoW Hand-In sheet and I will be returning your last hand-in to help you on your final one.
This week's PoW will be our last of the semester. It is a student-submitted problem and is a bit of a hybrid between a sudoku problem and our Connect the Squares PoW. It's very creative and worth a try! Good luck!!
This week's PoW is a student submitted one from a previous PoW Hand-in. Take the digits 1-4 (2 of each) and use them to make an 8 digit number following a particular set of rules. Give it a try!!
To say something is similar in math actually has a specific meaning. When speaking about shapes, it means they are essentially the same, but most often they differ only in sizing (either one is bigger or smaller). This week's PoW challenges you to find a way to use similar shapes to build a larger shape from smaller, similar ones. Think of making a large Lego piece out of Lego pieces. Good luck!

What are PoWs?Problems of the Week are puzzles, problems and questions I give out in a 4 week cycle. The first three weeks are new problems for students to try. The fourth week is a chance for reflection and an opportunity for students to choose one of the three PoWs to hand in as a showcase of their problem solving abilities. Hand-in OutlineArchives
